A big fire in Hann’s old town. Münden almost completely destroyed three houses last night. Other half-timbered houses were damaged. The end of the extinction work is not yet in sight.

The fire department now has the fire under control in the narrow streets of the city center. According to a police spokeswoman, it is currently not foreseeable when all the fire nests will be extinguished. At least five houses were badly damaged in the fire that broke out in a commercial building around 7:35 p.m. last night. According to the city’s fire chief, Dieter Röthig, three of them were almost completely destroyed. It has not yet been determined how many houses are uninhabitable, the police spokeswoman said. There may still be damage to other houses. According to initial estimates by the city’s fire chief, the damage amounts to one million euros.

Residents were able to get out of the houses on time

According to police, the flames had spread from the affected commercial building on Rosenstrasse to several neighboring half-timbered houses last night. The fire also spread to neighboring houses on Kirchstrasse, at the rear of the commercial building. A large contingent of about 170 firefighters was on duty. All the residents could have escaped outside in due time. According to the police, no one was injured.

Due to the narrow buildings in the old town, the fire quickly spreads to other houses.

It is not yet clear how the fire occurred. Investigators have not yet been able to inspect the scene of the fire, the police spokeswoman said. So far there is no evidence of arson. Due to the extinction works, some streets in the old town are still completely closed. According to the police, this particularly affects Kirchstrasse, Rosenstrasse and parts of Burgstrasse.

A major fire destroyed seven half-timbered houses in 2008

In 2008 there was a fire in the old town of Hann. Münden caused damages of several million euros. At that time, seven half-timbered houses from the 16th to 19th centuries were partially completely destroyed.
