Hamburg wants to take stricter crown measures. Starting Monday, everyone must wear masks in restaurants and outlets.
The Senate has agreed to this mechanism, said Martin Helfrich, a spokesman for the health authority. In Hamburg, corona infections have exceeded the so-called incidence value of 35 for the first time since April. With 125 new infections, the value rose to 36.1 on Thursday, according to authorities. The value indicates the number of new infections in seven days per 100,000 inhabitants. As a result, football matches in Hamburg stadiums can now only take place in front of a maximum of 1,000 spectators.
Mask requirement for everyone in gastronomy and retail
Mayor Peter Tschentscher (SPD) announced after deliberations with the Senate that everyone should wear a mask starting next Monday in restaurants and outlets. That also applies to staff. “In addition, we will monitor compliance with the rules even more, especially in the restaurant sector,” said Tschentscher. If the number of infections continues to move to the current level, as of Monday, face masks and nose masks should also be worn at all other events in closed rooms and in buildings with public traffic and in public places where there are large gatherings and tight spaces. . And: face shields should no longer be recognized as a proper daily mask. So they are only allowed in exceptional cases, for example for people with disabilities. According to health authorities, parents need not fear that schools and nurseries will close again for the time being.
Restrictions on private celebrations threaten
Restrictions on sport should no longer apply as soon as the incidence value falls below 35. According to the Senate resolution, all other eases will only be possible again if the value remains below the mark for at least three days. . Until now, an incidence value of 50 was the limit above which, at the latest, stricter measures should be taken. It is already certain that celebrations in private spaces should be limited to a maximum of 10 and in rented rooms to a maximum of 25 participants.
On Wednesday, Senator for Economic Affairs Michael Westhagemann (who is not part of the party) had already promised tougher measures for the restaurant sector if the incidence value continued to rise to 50, similar to Berlin. As examples, he cited a possible curfew, an alcohol ban or a reduction in the number of guests. At 50, other leisure options are restricted again. According to Westhagemann, then also Plans for Winter Cathedral or Christmas markets no longer apply.
Consultations by teleconference
On Friday Tschentscher will participate in a teleconference with Chancellor Angela Merkel (CDU) with the mayors and heads of government of eleven major German cities. The next steps will be discussed there.
