In the case of the six-year-old boy rescued from a Halle river in Saxony-Anhalt, investigators found a 24-year-old suspect. Police said he was provisionally arrested at noon at his work in the Anhalt-Bitterfeld district. There was an “urgent suspicion” of the man, he said.

There were various indications of the population, a spokesman for the Halle prosecutor had previously said. A nine-member investigation team called “Elsa” has been dealing with the case for days. Two posted ghost images should also lead to the suspect.

Call for help from the frozen aisle

The suspect is said to have carried the six-year-old mainly in his arms through the city center early Sunday morning. The girl had only been dressed in pajamas in the low temperatures.

Later, two corridors in the hall saved the boy from drowning. What exactly happened that morning is still unclear. For tactical reasons, the investigators declined to comment on whether it was a kidnapping or other criminal act.

The girl lives with her parents in the center of Halle. On Sunday, the boy was last seen at the family apartment around 7:30 a.m. and was later reported missing. At around 8:30 a.m., the two runners found the girl in the frozen hallway after hearing cries for help.
