The Prime Minister of Saxony, Kretschmer, and the health politician Lauterbach see no possibilities for holiday trips at Easter. They warn of a third wave. However, some country leaders do not want to make such tough decisions so soon.
Saxony Prime Minister Michael Kretschmer (CDU) ruled out the Easter holidays in Germany due to the crown pandemic, sparking debate. “I am in favor of telling the truth. Unfortunately, this year there can be no Easter holidays in Germany,” Kretschmer said of “Bild am Sonntag”. He warned that excessive mobility would destroy success in fighting pandemics.
Kretschmer received the support of SPD health politician Karl Lauterbach. “I’m not assuming that we can go on Easter vacation this year,” Lauterbach told the “Welt.” The Easter weeks should be used “with as few contacts as possible to avoid the still threatening third wave with dangerous mutations.”
Günther insists on a date
Brandenburg Prime Minister Dietmar Woidke takes a similar line. “Tourist trips, day trips and any unnecessary trips should be avoided now,” said SPD politician from “Welt”. Now is not the time to travel.
Schleswig-Holstein Prime Minister Daniel Günther (CDU) does not want to question the Easter holidays so far. The prime ministers agreed on a clear timetable to develop an opening strategy in the areas of gastronomy and accommodation. “I don’t believe in questioning this even a week later,” Günther told the “Welt”. Our goal must be to be able to experience a different Easter than last year. ”
Söder urges smart steps
Bavarian Prime Minister Markus Söder (CSU) said Easter will only be “in about seven weeks”. It’s about acting smartly and step by step. This applies to those who already say what should not work for the next six months, as well as those who say that everything should be opened immediately. Saxony-Anhalt’s head of government, Reiner Haseloff, also advised caution. At ARD-Transmission Berlin report said people had been through a lot. But you need a clear exit plan.
The Federal Government Tourism Commissioner, Thomas Bareiß (CDU), held back with the forecasts. Bareiß advises waiting to see what happens. “Easter is not until April 4,” he wrote on Twitter. The Apartment and Vacation Home Owners Association cautioned against making premature decisions. If the value of the incidence is reduced to less than 35 new infections per 100,000 inhabitants in the last seven days, travel at Easter should be allowed under certain conditions, said the president of the association, Daniel Rousta.
“This is how trust is played”
Criticism of Kretschmer’s announcement came from the left. Instead of developing an understandable, safe and logical plan, any measure will be indiscriminately eliminated, said Jan Korte, parliamentary director of the Left Group, the “world”. This is how trust is played.
There was also criticism from the FDP. “The course of Merkel’s lack of prospects continues with Mr Kretschmer,” says deputy chairman of the parliamentary group Michael Theurer. “This is how people wear themselves out. But they need perspective.”
