The team of President-elect of the United States, Joe Biden, has confirmed Antony Blinken as future Secretary of State. The 58-year-old was Biden’s political adviser on foreign policy issues for many years and also supported him in the election campaign. From 2013 to 2015 he was Deputy National Security Advisor to then-United States President Barack Obama, and from 2015 to 2017 he was Under Secretary of State John Kerry.
Blinken recently attended a national security briefing with Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris and made public statements on foreign policy issues. He graduated from Harvard University and Columbia Law School. In the past, he had campaigned to strengthen American diplomacy and global engagement.
Biden wants to realign his country’s foreign policy: he promised to cement relations with allies around the world and lead the United States back to international agreements.
