Residents of the Austrian village of Fucking have grown tired of the eternal jokes: at a council meeting they decided that their village of 100 inhabitants should be renamed Fugging by the end of the year. This was confirmed by the mayor of Tarsdorf, to which the fucking belongs.
Especially on the Internet platforms, people had made fun of the name of the Fucking town, which is an obscene term in English.
The place is in the district of Braunau am Inn in Upper Austria, about ten kilometers from the border with Bavaria.
Streams of tourists caused anger among residents
English-speaking tourists, in particular, had traveled to town in the past to be photographed on the Fucking sign. They sometimes took lewd poses before posting the images on internet platforms.
Until now there had not been a clear majority in the local council for the name change. Above all, the villagers, who lived near the sign with the name of the place, had always supported the change.
