From Wednesday in Saxony: mandatory mask now also in front of supermarkets, schools and kindergartens

Since Wednesday, a mask is compulsory in Saxony in front of schools and kindergartens. What else is there? A call to retirees to refrain from traveling by train.

“A certain recklessness has been installed again. There can be no doubt that everything is clear. The measures taken in early November are still not working as expected,” Health Minister Petra Köpping said Tuesday (62, SPD ) after the Saxon cabinet meeting.

“Individual hospitals are already at their limit.”

Therefore, among other things, it was decided in the cabinet: Since Wednesday, the mask requirement applies throughout Saxony in front of commercial markets, schools and kindergartens. It is precisely at these points where many people would still like to have a “chat” or even hug when they meet, which is why Köpping critically. But that slows down the fight against Corona.

Anyone who violates the mask requirement and is caught there must pay 60 euros. To verify compliance, law enforcement offices and police would be more on the move, the minister said. Municipalities can request administrative assistance.

This also applies to checks, for example in supermarkets. Background: Actually, there is “only one person for every ten square meters”, which is rarely observed. In this context, Köpping appealed to store owners for greater control.

He made another appeal to the elderly: “I ask you as elderly people to refrain from using public transport that is not necessary.” The spacer on buses and trains cannot be attached, especially at peak times.

At the same time, the Minister of Health announced the testing of new corona test procedures. This means that instead of the current 11,000 daily tests, up to 3,000 more tests could be accepted.

Evaluation should also be particularly fast with these new methods, Köpping said, referring to criticisms of long wait times for test results. The minister asked for it to be understood that not all the departments involved were still digitally coordinated.

Also, the testers were working with 11,000 per day, already above the original maximum of 9,500 tests per day.

Finally, the politician asked: “Not everyone who has a cold has to go to the test.”
