The horror is written on the faces of many witnesses: a white truck is on Thursday morning at Friesenplatz in Cologne, at the confluence with Venloer Straße, including a crushed bicycle. Any help comes too late for the woman traveling to Rudolfplatz. She succumbs to her injuries at the scene of the accident.

When the traffic light changed from red to green at 11.10 a.m., two other cyclists followed straight ahead. The woman also intended to do so. Now the truck driver accelerated to turn right. According to witnesses, the cyclist had shouted for him to stop.

A fatal collision occurred at the Friesenplatz crossing area.

Passers-by had also called the 44-year-old man to stop. As a result, the truck stopped dead, but apparently did not realize the situation. When pedestrians attempted to pull the woman out from under the tire, the truck is said to have hit the road again so the woman would be run over. She was dead immediately.

Fatal accident at Friesenplatz: identity of the victim unclear

The body was unable to recover until two hours later. The identity so far is not clear. According to the police, the trucker suffered a shock. Rescue teams also had to treat eyewitnesses.

Another fatal car accident in Cologne had occurred about ten hours earlier. As police said, a 20-year-old boy had hit his car at 1.24 a.m. on Thenhovener Straße in Roggendorf against the tunnel wall of the underpass to BAB 57 (read more here).

According to the current state of the investigation, it is a solitary accident. The cause is still unclear.

It wasn’t until the night before that an Opel crashed into a concrete pillar in the Mauenheim belt for an unknown cause (read more here). The driver was seriously injured.
