However, the so-called incidence, that is, new cases of Covid-19 below 100,000 inhabitants in a week, remains at a very high level. The Robert Koch Institute shows a value of nearly 200 for Frankfurt after nearly 205 on Sunday. This means that the main metropolis remains not only the hotspot in Hesse, but also between the main German cities. There is an equally high value in Solingen and higher indicators in some parts of Berlin. In light of the infection, the city canceled the Christmas market for the weekend and announced new wreath requirements. Now people are advised to wear the mask every day in Frankfurt whenever possible.

In the neighboring town of Offenbach, the incidence value rose again markedly after falling overnight. After 129.4 new infections in seven days among 100,000 inhabitants, the Federal Institute, known for short as the RKI, now shows slightly less than 179. For the Groß-Gerau district there are almost 147 cases, which means stagnation. In Kassel, where an outbreak at an initial reception center for refugees had increased the incidence rate, the situation continues to improve. In contrast, the Gießen district surpassed the 100 mark overnight and is at the highest warning level according to the state escalation concept (see graph).
For the whole of Hesse, the RKI, which is in charge of controlling the disease, talks about 625 new confirmed cases reported overnight. That’s a remarkably low number of new infections compared to the numbers in recent weeks. However, at the beginning of the week there is often a delay in notification by the health authorities. Therefore, Monday dates do not usually say much.
The president of the Hessian State Medical Association, Edgar Pinkowski, has again called for the protection measures of the crown to be respected: “In addition to wearing mouth and nose protection, it is important to keep your distance, ventilate, wash hands regularly and gather people to avoid, “says Pinkowski on Monday according to dpa.” We can only cope with this pandemic if everyone participates and is aware of their responsibility for themselves and others. “
New record among those who have recovered
In total, Hessen has reported 32,852 infections since the pandemic began in March. 3,454 have been added since Saturday alone. 611 corona patients have died since March, two more than on Sunday. At the beginning of the month, only a good 19,000 infections were known since March and 551 victims of the crown in Hesse. These numbers show the dynamics of the pandemic in recent days.
The RKI also shows a significant increase in the group of those who have recovered. The institute now assumes that 22,100 people have had their corona infection behind them. That’s 400 more than before. More recently, the number had increased in steps of two hundred. The fact that it is now increasing should also, and especially, have to do with the sharp increase in cases since the beginning of October – an infection is generally considered to have ended after a good two weeks. Anyone who has tested positive and does not subsequently receive medical treatment is considered to have recovered. There are currently around 36 people recovered by death, which is a very high number.
In view of the sharp increase in the number of corona infections, the Fulda Clinic is completely banned from visiting the Fulda Hospital since Friday. Exceptions could be made in individual cases after consultation with the ward for prospective parents, visits to the children’s clinic, as well as intensive care units and the palliative ward, the clinic announced Thursday. Similar requirements also apply at Wiesbaden and the Frankfurt University Clinic.
The Hessen clinics treat more Covid-19 patients than a week ago. The number of people in intensive care units requiring ventilation has increased dramatically. As the Ministry of Social Affairs announced to the FAZ on Wednesday, there are 567 corona patients in a clinic, up from a week ago there were 399. After 67 patients before, 110 people are now connected to ventilators.
By contrast, fewer beds are available in Hessian hospitals. According to the ministry, 6,033 are free, which is less than 155. Of these, 599 are so-called ventilation beds, 62 less than a week ago. These payers are updated weekly. The ministry did not say whether there are sufficiently trained personnel everywhere for each free bed.

The Hessian Ministry of Social Affairs publishes an overview of the development of the crown every day, broken down into districts and urban districts. Refers to RKI figures. In the first weeks of the pandemic, it also took into account the data of the inspection and investigation office of the state of Hesse in the health system of the regional council of Gießen, to which the health authorities must report new cases. For consistency, the ministry now only uses RKI information.
From Frankfurt’s perspective, it is fundamentally important: positive tests taken at the airport are not assigned to the city. Rather, according to the Ministry of Social Affairs, they are reflected in the statistics of the health department, which is responsible for the respective returnee. This can also be the Frankfurt office or another in Hesse, but also an authority in another federal state.
