France: three policemen killed in action

A gunman killed three police officers and wounded another officer in France. This was announced by the public prosecutor of the AFP news agency. The national gendarmerie confirmed that three of its members had been killed.

According to the prosecution, the operation had occurred on Wednesday night near the municipality of Saint-Just in the department of Puy-de-Dôme. The police had been alerted to a case of alleged domestic violence.

The burned house

First came two policemen who wanted to help a woman who had fled to the roof of a house. The attacker is said to have shot one of them and hit another in the leg.

Then the 48-year-old, according to investigators, started a fire in his home and shot other police officers who had arrived. Two of them were mortally wounded.

According to the BFMTV news channel, the mission is still ongoing. The woman is now safe.
