After a second corona test, Klemens Muranka tested negative. The Polish federation is now fighting for a re-qualification for the inaugural competition of the Four Hills Tournament.
The chaos surrounding the Polish team never ends. As the sports magazine “Przeglad Sportowy” first reported on Monday night, no evidence of the corona virus could be found in a repeat corona test by Klemens Muranka, which tested positive on Sunday.
“He has a negative result,” confirmed team doctor Aleksander Winiarski after qualifying for the inaugural competition of the Four Hills Tournament (event summary with calendar and information), in which no Polish ski jumpers were allowed to participate. The health department had previously identified all of Muranka’s teammates as first-degree contact persons and sent them to quarantine.
Polish association struggles to go back on tour
Apoloniusz Tajner, president of the Polish Association (PZN), had announced that in the event of a negative Muranka test result, he would fight to participate in the tour’s opening competition.
Poland’s sports director Adam Malysz has also confirmed to the sports magazine that he will file a protest with the International Ski Federation (FIS) and the Organizing Committee of the Four Hills Tournament: “I don’t understand and I am angry. This is serious business, it is the fight for the tour and the World Cup in general. Malysz demands that the classification be repeated or that all Polish ski jumpers without qualification participate in the competition.
The health department carried out further tests on the Polish team on Monday evening, and the results should be available in the next few hours. If Muranka’s third test is negative, it is probably up to the International Ski Federation (FIS) to make a decision. In addition to repeating qualification, it would also be conceivable to allow the 62 athletes to participate in the first round and to forego the knockout mode.
Even the Polish Ministry of Sports has intervened. “We are in contact with the president of PZN. We will demand that the Polish ski jumpers be admitted to the Four Hills Tournament tomorrow, ”said Sports Minister Piotr Glinski.
