For the first time in Lower Saxony, a district has imposed a night curfew. About 140,000 residents are affected in Bentheim County.
The curfew applies from Wednesday night. So houses and apartments can no longer be dropped off between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m., as the district announced Monday. According to the Hannover Ministry of Health, it is the first case at the national level in which a municipality in Lower Saxony takes such a step to contain the corona pandemic. The new rule in Bentheim County will initially apply until January 12.

The district administrator sees no other way
In Bentheim County, there was a value of 210.7 new infections per 100,000 residents in a week on Monday. There is no way around stricter measures with an incidence value of more than 200, said district administrator Uwe Fietzek. Such a measure had already been implemented in numerous circles in other federal states such as North Rhine-Westphalia and Bavaria, he emphasized.
