How good is the BNT162b2 corona vaccine really? Perfect, as it seemed to many after the initial introduction, it is not a vaccine. So what can you expect when you get vaccinated?

reThe BNT162b2 RNA vaccine against the new coronavirus, tested by Biontech of Mainz and the American company Pfizer, caused a great euphoria with the first interim results of the approval study, but it certainly did not fulfill all wishes. Many questions remain. And the hope that the other vaccine projects will also quickly report on their progress with results and data.

Who will the vaccine help if it is 90 percent effective?

90 percent sounds like a lot, and other vaccines like the flu shot are rarely as effective as this one. In this regard, the result is considered surprising, indeed a breakthrough for a new vaccine technology. The 90 percent effectiveness for BNT162b2 means that infection was prevented in 90 percent of the vaccinated volunteers. But first, the vaccine trial is far from over. The first interim results, which were seen by independent vaccination experts in the Data Monitoring Committee for the study group (the companies Biontech and Pfizer), are the minimum data required for an emergency license application in the United States. About 39,000 of the total 43,500 women and men in the study have already received the two doses of vaccine that are necessary. Half had been injected with the candidate vaccine and the other half (unknowingly) with a dummy drug, a placebo.
