Titles, tears and triumphs: 1. FC Nürnberg can look back on an eventful history, now over 118 years old. The club celebrated its greatest successes in the “golden” 1920s, when five of the nine championships were won. Until the 1960s, the club was one of the biggest names in German football. But with the first descent from the House of Lords in 1969, it began a minimum of a decade. Releases and scandals shaped the club, which earned a reputation as an elevator team during this time and even crashed into the regional third-class league in 1996. Only in the new millennium did the club consolidate and take back the old ones. times with the DFB Cup victory in 2007. However, the FCN is still stuck in the elevator today. In 2007/2008 and 2013/2014, including two managerial changes, a winless first round and more recently seven losses in a row, the club was relegated from the 1st Bundesliga and is therefore the only record relegated in Germany. Since the revival in 2017/18, the FCN, along with Arminia Bielefeld, has also been a record climber in soccer’s upper house. In the summer of 2020, the club was only saved from relegation with a last-minute blow from Fabian Schleusener and therefore remains second division.

The Greuther Fürth Gaming Association celebrated its greatest successes as a football club in club history with three German championship titles in 1914, 1926 and 1929 as SpVgg Fürth. However, after World War II, the gaming association was never able to build on its great successes and was therefore unable to qualify for the Bundesliga, which was founded in 1963.
With the fall in the regional league, the traditional club finally sank into insignificance in the 1980s. Things only recovered in 1994 when they qualified for the newly founded regional league. Two years later, the football department of TSV Vestenbergsgreuth joined SpVgg. Since then, financial concerns are a thing of the past, the traditional SpVgg Fürth name was supplemented by the addition of Greuther.
The football association has played in the 2nd Bundesliga since 1997 until the long-awaited promotion to the Bundesliga was finally achieved in May 2012. There, however, there was no success, so Fürth has to compete in the lower house. again from the 2013/2014 season. The club, popularly known as the “clover leaf”, plays its home games at the venerable Ronhof. A planned new stadium construction on the Rhine-Main-Danube canal broke down at the end of 2012.
