“Five days of ice containers would be nice”

Record soccer champions FC Bayern won the UEFA Super Cup last Thursday and clinched their next title. However, Munich pays a high price for it, players and coaches are already warning of the heavy burden.

Only after 120 grueling minutes did the Bayern stars finish their job against Sevilla FC at the Púskas Aréna in Budapest. And on Sunday (3:30 pm) the next task is already ahead of the Bundesliga with the duel against TSG Hoffenheim, to the chagrin of stars like Robert Lewandowski.

“He didn’t really celebrate his Super Cup win with his teammates,” the Pole told “Bild”, “we were too exhausted for 120 minutes.” Robert Lewandowski, who set the goal to equalize Leon Goretzka 1-1, played well.

The attacker had already suffered a minor injury in the 8-0 win over Schalke 04 on the first day of the Bundesliga and was only ready to play a few days before the game against Sevilla.

Flick, Bayern coach: “We worry”

The big load is obviously a big problem within the team at this early stage. It was less than four weeks between the final of the Champions League and the start of the new season, there is hardly time for regeneration.

Therefore, Lewandowski criticizes the busy schedule: “We will fly back to Hoffenheim on Saturday, we don’t have a day off. Actually, five days of ice containers would be fine.”

Bayern manager Hansi Flick is also looking with concern at the coming weeks. “We think about how we handle the load and relief,” “Bild” quotes the 55-year-old man: “Now we have to collect all the grains and rest.”

After all, their players don’t have a long break after the Hoffenheim game. FC Bayern will face runner-up Borussia Dortmund in the German Super Cup on Wednesday (8:30 pm).
