According to officials, a local resident called the emergency call around 6 p.m. Because he had apparently noticed the smell of fire in the apartment building on Omerskopfstrasse.
When the fire brigade searched for a possible source of fire in the man’s department, the man is said to have made threats against firefighters. Then the police were asked.
When they were apparently attacked by the man upon entering the department, according to the current state of the investigation, officers first had to use pepper spray.
Later, the suspect kicked them with a knife, after which officers fired multiple shots.
The suspect was first treated on the leg by the ambulance service and taken to a clinic. Police officers were irritated by the pepper spray and were otherwise unharmed.
Long-term criminal service officers took over the investigation in cooperation with the Baden-Baden prosecutor’s office.
Subsequently, the fire department was unable to determine any reason for the fire smell mentioned earlier.
