Fire in Pankow: huge cloud of smoke over Berlin
In Berlin a large cloud of smoke could be seen in the sky on Friday afternoon. A warehouse in Pankow was on fire.
Sedan. Large wisps of gray smoke could be seen in the blue sky over Berlin on Friday afternoon. The cause of the huge smoke cloud was the fire of an 800 square meter warehouse on Dolomitenstrasse in Pankow. The fire department was on duty from 3 pm and with 60 emergency services on site. A video shows the violence of the fire and the massive development of smoke.
Firefighters reported many calls to the emergency number because the smoke cloud could be seen from afar. The deployment site was cordoned off in a large area. Residents reported a pungent smell of fire. At 4 pm, firefighters were arrested and the Dolomitenstraße opened, as announced by the Traffic Information Center (VIZ) on Twitter.
According to a spokesman for the fire department, the dense smoke set off three more fire alarms in Berlin. The long-distance rail line near the fire site was not affected. However, the fire department informed flight safety about the fire in Pankow, as the smoke was directly in the approach lane towards Tegel.
Fire in Pankow: support was requested from the volunteer fire brigades
According to information from the Berliner Morgenpost, the burning warehouse was empty. However, it was not a question of wooden barracks, as it was initially called.
Berlin firefighters had asked volunteer firefighters for support. Due to many other emergency services in Berlin, there were not enough emergency vehicles available and the emergency service had to be declared.
