With the beginning of the month, some relaxation movements in Germany: hairdressers can reopen. But how should it continue? The calls for a step-by-step plan and a different vaccination sequence are getting stronger.
Despite signs of a third wave of the corona pandemic approaching, lockdown measures in Germany are easing slightly today. After two and a half months, hairdressers across the country can reopen. They had to remain closed since December 16, when the hard lockdown began. Some opened their salons at midnight.
The decision to open hair salons across the country was made at the last federal-state meeting on February 10. On Wednesday, Chancellor Angela Merkel and the prime ministers of the federal states will meet again, also to discuss a new perspective of openness in the confinement.
FDP insists on new initial steps
In some federal states, other facilities are also opening, including garden markets, flower shops, foot care salons, and driving schools. The pressure before the deliberations is great, since on the one hand the desire for more freedom grows, but experts also see the beginning of a third wave of pandemics. The key figures of the central crown are rising again, the reason is likely to be the spread of more contagious virus variations.
The FDP calls for more opening steps ahead of major consultations from the federal and state levels on the corona pandemic. “It is gratifying that the hairdressers are reopening. However, this is not systematic because there are comparable hygiene concepts in other industries,” said First Parliamentary Managing Director of the FDP parliamentary group, Marco Buschmann, of the dpa news agency.
He noted that some federal states have already deviated from Chancellor Merkel’s line. “Therefore, we urgently need a step-by-step plan at the national level that provides guidance and creates perspective.”
Federation of cities to rethink the sequence of vaccinations
The leader of the green parliamentary group Katrin Göring-Eckardt argued against the black-red federal government a “historic failure” in the fight against Corona. “After a year of pandemic, she has little more to show than little by little or nervous from side to side.” So for vaccinations and rapid tests, the turbo must finally be activated.
The German Association of Cities and Municipalities called for people to get vaccinated against the corona virus more quickly and effectively. Cities and municipalities supported the considerations to lift the strict vaccination sequence, Executive Director Gerd Landsberg said. As vaccine deliveries have become more reliable, many vaccine doses no longer have to be reserved for the second vaccination. Rather, as many people as possible should receive the first vaccine.
