Federal government on the crown crisis: “The infection figures worry us a lot”

The federal government is concerned about the development of corona infections and calls for caution. Chancellor Merkel is said to have warned the CDU against “figures like France’s.” There are currently more than 10,000 new infections per day there.

To comply with hygiene rules, use Corona-Warnapp, use reason and caution, the federal government has asked that the number of infections not increase further. “We are very concerned about the development of the number of infections,” said government spokesman Steffen Seibert.

In some regions there are strong increases. They urgently need to get back under control, Seibert said. “We cannot allow the virus to spread again exponentially in individual locations.”

Seibert: every day counts

Where there are hotspots, countermeasures must be taken quickly, Seibert said. Every day counts.

The government spokesman appealed to the population: “If we all show this common sense and this caution together, if we temporarily accept the necessary restrictions, then we can all save ourselves and our country a lot this fall and winter.”

Merkel reportedly warns of a record rise

According to information from CDU party circles, Chancellor Angela Merkel had previously warned of the massive spread of the corona virus in Germany. “If the trend continues like this, we will have 19,200 infections a day,” conference participants quoted the Chancellor as quoted by “Bild” newspaper and Reuters news agency. Seibert said he could not comment on the “statement that was allegedly made in inner circles.”

The Chancellor gave the number based on projections, he said. As a period, therefore, he declared “until Christmas”. According to media reports, he was referring to the current rapid increase in new infections in France. According to the dpa news agency, he said in a videoconference of the CDU presidium that local sources of infection must be addressed very clearly, otherwise numbers would be had at Christmas like in France. In recent days, more than 10,000 new infections have been regularly recorded there, with fewer inhabitants than in Germany.

Focus on business

The infection figures in Europe are worrying, the chancellor said, especially with a view to the state of the economy. In Europe there are no forces to finance a second great rescue package in the face of the consequences of the crown.

Merkel is quoted as saying that the pandemic is causing a collapse in purchasing power around the world. The economy must continue to function, schools and nurseries must remain open. Soccer, on the other hand, is secondary.

The government and the federal states will discuss tomorrow

Tomorrow a videoconference is scheduled between the Chancellor and the Prime Ministers of the federal states to coordinate the further course of action in the Corona crisis.

Bavarian Prime Minister Markus Söder proposed a nationwide “Crown Traffic Light” in the run-up to the meeting. This should jump to yellow if there are 35 or more infected people per 100,000 inhabitants within seven days in a district. From a value of 50, it turns red. Protection measures must be reinforced at each level.

New infections reported: currently 1,192

In Germany, the number of new known infections increased by 1,192 in the last 24 hours, as announced by the Robert Koch Institute (RKI). However, the number is quite low at the beginning of the week because not all health authorities report data during the weekend. On average, new infections in Germany had increased by more than 2000 in recent days.
