The successful time of David Alaba and FC Bayern Munich could be coming to an end. After the German champions withdrew their contract extension offer, which expired on June 30, 2021, over the weekend, the Austrian national player is more excited than ever. Alaba has been playing for Munich since 2008, with a brief hiatus in 2011, and is an undisputed high-performance player in central defense under coach Hansi Flick.
After Alaba’s team was not satisfied with Bayern’s offer, “we decided to take the offer completely off the table. The 66-year-old, once a director of global company Adidas, now sees the defender’s turn. “David is still under contract with us for eight months and we really appreciate him,” Hainer said. Just before Tuesday’s Champions League game in Alaba’s home country of Austria at RB Salzburg, the uproar over the contract situation is particularly explosive. The 28-year-old is expected to attend the press conference with Flick the day before Monday’s game.
