The tension in the race for the White House is mounting: After initially shaking, the tide has turned in Joe Biden’s favor. Success in another state might be enough. The current results.
Democrat Joe Biden will go down the stretch as the favorite, while in the United States the final votes will be counted in the presidential elections. After winning key states, challenger Biden appears to be only steps away from the White House. However, the current Donald Trump claimed victory and sent his lawyers with lawsuits in various states.
According to calculations by the AP news agency and Fox News television station, Biden now has 264 of the 270 electoral votes needed to win the presidential election. Consequently, former Vice President Barack Obama would only need to choose one state to win.
The race is still open in Pennsylvania, North Carolina, Georgia, and Nevada, among others. In Pennsylvania and Georgia, Trump initially led, but Biden caught up and more absentee votes were counted. In Nevada, which brings in six electoral votes and could give Biden a precision landing, Biden held a narrow lead Thursday night.
Trump is suing in several states
Democratic supporters were more inclined to send their votes by mail than Republicans amid the coronavirus pandemic. Since there were delays at the US Postal Service, postal ballot papers are said to be valid in Pennsylvania and arrive on Friday afternoon. Trump and the Republicans will return to court. The United States Supreme Court had approved the regulations before the elections. However, three conservatives among the nine justices were open to picking up on the issue again after the election.
Trump also sued in other states. In Michigan, where Biden leads, he wants to suspend the count until his observers can get closer to the evaluating staff. In Wisconsin, Trump calls for a recount in the face of a close race.
It is likely that some time will pass before there is clarity. Nevada does not want to provide updated information on the status of the count until around 9:00 am local time (6:00 pm CET). In Arizona there were still more than 500,000 votes to count. Here the situation is difficult: AP and Fox News hit the state with eleven Biden voters, the other stations have not yet.

Biden: the result is clear
Biden saw himself before Trump. “Now, after a long night of counting, it is clear that we are winning enough states to get the 270 electoral votes needed to win the presidency,” he said Wednesday in Wilmington, Delaware.
According to matching media reports, Biden won the warring states of Michigan and Wisconsin against Trump. The Republican declared himself the winner early Wednesday’s election night and announced that he would take his claim to the United States Supreme Court.
Biden stressed that he did not want to officially claim victory for himself. But when the count is over, “we think we will be the winners.” He said the United States must overcome the deep divide. “To progress we have to stop treating our opponents as enemies,” Biden said. “We are not enemies.”
Trump continues to oppose vote by mail
Throughout the day, Trump posted several tweets against the vote count. His clue, which still existed Tuesday night, “magically disappeared” in one state after another, he wrote. In the beleaguered state of Pennsylvania they are “working hard” to quickly “disappear” half a million votes, he wrote elsewhere. Twitter noticed several messages of “possibly misleading” statements. Trump had already raised his spirits against voting by mail during the election campaign and raised questions about its legality, although voting by mail is an established form of voting. Trump did significantly better in the election overall than expected according to polls. In the race for the US presidency, the focus was on particularly contested states, in which majorities repeatedly switch between Democrats and Republicans.

In the United States, the president is not chosen directly by the people, but by 538 voters and constituencies. Each state has a certain number of them depending on the size of the population. The candidate with the most votes in the state basically registers the entire state electorate for himself. Exception: In Maine and Nebraska, electorate votes are divided by majorities in electoral districts. The overall state winner receives two more votes. In Maine, Trump won an additional voter and Biden won one in Nebraska.
Due to the corona pandemic, this year it was difficult to assess the state of the count on election night. Many Biden supporters had stated that they wanted to vote by mail. Voters for President Trump were more likely to vote on Election Day. In all, more than 100 million voters cast their ballots before November 3 – a record! States have different methods of counting which votes and when, so big changes were expected on election night and in the days after.

On November 3, not only were the President of the United States elected, but also the entire House of Representatives and parts of the Senate.
