EU Copernicus program: record heat in November

Since the beginning of the meteorological data record, November has not been warmer than last month. This is reported by the EU Earth observation program Copernicus. He urged governments to do more climate protection.

Another world heat record was set last month: It was the hottest November since meteorological data began to be recorded, the EU’s Earth observation program Copernicus said. The month was 0.8 degrees warmer than the 30-year average from 1981 to 2010.

The November record was also 0.1 degrees above the last peak in 2016. For the fall months of September through November, temperatures in Europe were 1.9 degrees above the baseline period.

Tied with record year 2016

“These records are in line with the long-term warming trend of the global climate,” said the head of the Copernicus Service for Climate Change Research, Carlo Buontempo. So far, the year 2020 has been roughly the same as the record year 2016.

“All political decision makers should view these records as alarm bells,” Buontempo warned. You should think more seriously than ever about the best way to meet the international commitments set out in the 2015 Paris Agreement.

The Paris Climate Agreement envisages limiting global warming well below two degrees and, if possible, 1.5 degrees compared to the pre-industrial era.
