Erligheim in Baden-Württemberg: the police shoot a man who apparently wanted to blow up ATMs

Police fired on a suspected sprinkler at an ATM early Thursday morning. According to investigators, the man had attacked officials with a long screwdriver in a bank anteroom in Erligheim, Baden-Württemberg.

This was followed by “police use of firearms.” Despite resuscitation measures, the man died at the scene.

According to a spokeswoman, the criminal police had been investigating two suspects for some time due to several ATM explosions. When the duo started blowing up another machine early Thursday morning, a mobile police force wanted to arrest the suspects.

The second suspect tried to escape according to the information. However, he was arrested by nearby officers. Specialists obtained evidence at the crime scene on Thursday. Initially, no further details were known.
