Entry from Germany: Denmark closes the border to tourists

In Germany and Denmark, record levels of new infections were reported today. Now the Danish government is drawing conclusions: people from Germany can only enter if they have a valid reason to do so.

Due to the increasing number of new corona infections, people from Germany can no longer enter Denmark without good reason as of Saturday. Danish Foreign Minister Jeppe Kofod announced.

Among other things, this means that German tourists can no longer enter the country. A valid reason for entry can be given if someone works in Denmark or wants to visit family or partner. For most other countries in Europe, these entry restrictions have been in place for a long time.

Exceptions should apply to residents of Schleswig-Holstein, provided that the number of infections does not exceed 30 per 100,000 residents. Germans who own a holiday home in Denmark are also excluded. Those in the country don’t have to leave in a hurry, Kofod said.

Highs in Denmark

In Denmark, the number of new infections was high: 760 new corona cases were recorded here from Wednesday to Thursday. Virologists point out, however, that this number does not have to mean that more people are infected now than in the spring. Meanwhile, much more is being tested.

However, the Danish government promised tougher measures in light of the growing number of new infections. “The next two or three days will be decisive,” said Health Minister Magnus Heunicke. It won’t get in the way of restrictions or stricter rules.

Already in much of public life in Denmark you have to wear a mask. It is forbidden to gather 50 people.
