EMA Chief: Is it too slow for the vaccine to be approved?

northAfter the approval of the first Covid-19 vaccine in Britain, the pressure on European supervisors to make a decision quickly is mounting. However, it is not about speed, but above all about safety, says the new head of the European Medicines Agency (EMA), the Irish pharmacist Emer Cooke.

In an interview with WELT and other associated newspapers of the Leading European Newspaper Alliance (LENA) of six European countries, Europe’s main drug control body, which has been in office for only four weeks, he asked himself some important questions by advance for the first time.

WORLDStill, crude conspiracy theories about vaccines circulate. How worried are you?

Cooke: That is a challenge we have to face. It is even more important that we, as EMA, handle data transparently. The public should know: we are not trying to hide anything. That is precisely why we are starting a citizen dialogue on vaccines on December 11. We have to do everything possible to counter misinformation. The media also face challenges.
