In the scandal surrounding the payment service provider Wirecard, there are serious allegations against EY’s auditors. Following a report from the responsible supervisory body, the prosecution has launched an investigation.

The Munich public prosecutor’s office has launched investigations against those responsible for the audit firm EY for their involvement in the Wirecard scandal. The Auditor’s Oversight Office (APAS) had previously reported on the matter. A spokeswoman for the Public Ministry said this had been “verified in detail in the meantime.” “Given that it specifies specific criminal and accused provisions, we have initiated, as stipulated in the order of record, an investigation against those named.”

The initiation of the preliminary investigation is normal procedure, the spokeswoman said. “We continue to conduct our investigations throughout the Wirecard complex against numerous defendants, whom we do not want to reveal for tactical reasons.”

EY don’t see any criminal behavior

APAS had already called the Public Ministry in November. At the time, an EY spokesperson said they saw “no evidence of criminal conduct on the part of EY’s auditors in the Wirecard case.”

The chairman of the FDP in the Wirecard investigation committee of the Bundestag, Florian Toncar, said: “So far everything indicates that serious errors were made in the final exam. The fact that these could even have criminal relevance gives the case a dimension brand new “.
