The congressional election will be held in parallel to the presidential election. By current projections, Democrats have defended their majority in the House of Representatives. It’s still more exciting with the second House of Congress, the Senate.

Unsurprisingly, the Democrats defended their majority in the House of Representatives in the congressional elections, which ran parallel to the US presidential elections. This is the result of the NEP / Edison survey institute projections. In the House of Representatives, which is fully up for vote, Democrats hold 232 of the 435 seats so far. 218 votes are required for a majority.

Democrats could also win the Senate on their own

It’s still more exciting with the second House of Congress, the Senate. According to Edison Research, Democrat John Hickenlooper chased Republican President Cory Gardner from his seat there. So far, Republicans in the Senate have a slim majority of 53 out of 100 seats. Before the elections, 14 seats were considered to be in dispute, so the outcome may not be clear for a while.

With control of the entire Congress, Democrats could heavily block Republican policies even if incumbent Donald Trump wins the presidential election.
