Freiburg “explosion of dreams”, SGE takes a “step forward”
“That hurts a lot, of course. We did our best to keep going. In the end, Frankfurt was a bit more mature.”said visibly disappointed SC coach Daniel Kraus after the final whistle. Rebecca Knaak, captain of Freiburg, sums up: “The dream has exploded.“
SGE goalkeeper Merle Frohms highlighted: “It was a fight. Freiburg did a great job and took his chance, but we came back strong. We didn’t always make it in the league. As a team, we took a step forward.”
Playfully superior Frankfurt, icy Freiburg
Eintracht Frankfurt immediately took over the title, combined some very handsome and showed more forward drive. But he didn’t always win a lot of space: Freiburg coach Daniel Kraus had hired his team excellently. The SC pressed hard in a physical game, upset early. Sometimes SGE players were duplicated or even attacked in threes.
The first opportunity for Frankfurt was given by Laura Freilang from close range (6th). Soon after, Freiburg improved it with the first opportunity: a long diagonal pass from Jana Vojtekova leveraged the SGE defense, defender Küver hit over the ball and Müller hit a corner kick for Frohms.
After Nuding-Patzer, punt only hits the crossbar
Frankfurt almost managed to respond to the deficit a bit later, but striker Freilang only hit the crossbar after a lurid bad pass from SC goalkeeper Lena Nuding (23). Küver missed another good opportunity shortly before the break (45º + 3).
On the other side, after a deep pass, which again caught Frankfurt with his left foot, Ereleta Memeti still missed the post (36th).
Matheis, SGE player: Long balls are “your means”
Saskia Matheis from Frankfurt, who followed the game from the stands, said during the halftime break in “Hessischer Rundfunk”: “We always have to be attentive to if the long ball comes. Because that is its medium“Your teammates would also have to defend more consistently, accept duels and take better advantage of their own opportunities.”
Dream start for Eintracht in the second half: Küver makes up for mistakes
SGE coach Niko Arnautis also appeared to have addressed this in the locker room. Because Frankfurt made a lightning start in the second half: Prasnikar dusted at point-blank range after a corner that was not defended with determination. Frankfurt went straight into the duels with improved body language and pushed Freiburg even further into its own half than in the first round.
Permanent pressure from Eintracht resulted in Frankfurt’s second goal. A cross from Laura Feiersinger was improperly cleared and, of all, 17-year-old Küver, who made a mistake while conceding, scored a dream goal from the edge of the area with inside – 2: 1 for Frankfurt. The jubilation of Eintracht after a final phase dominated by the SGE knew no limits.
