Apparently, in a “state of psychological emergency”, a man from Marbach attacks the police, a church and a residential building. According to the police, when he was arrested, he also uttered “anti-police and xenophobic slogans”, as well as confusing things.

Eight injured and heavily damaged in Marbach, Baden-Württemberg: A 42-year-old man is said to have thrown incendiary devices at night on a residential building, a church and a police station in the old town. Eight people were injured. There were damages of more than half a million euros.

When he was arrested, the German also spoke “anti-police and xenophobic slogans,” a police spokesman said. After the first impression, officials assume that he committed the act in a “psychological state of emergency”. It is still being determined whether and to what extent far-right ideas were decisive.

The alleged perpetrator had thrown a self-made incendiary device at the entrance door of the Marbach police station (Ludwigsburg district) around 3 a.m. At the same time, witnesses reported two fires in the immediate vicinity: there had also been hurled incendiary devices, probably Molotov cocktails, at a residential building and the Protestant church. Helpers placed the incendiary device in the Protestant church and led five residents out of the burning house.

Due to the high levels of carbon monoxide, the residents of the neighboring house also escaped outside. Four residents of the apartment building, two first responders and two policemen were slightly injured. The apartment building suffered damages of at least 500,000 euros; the fire made the building uninhabitable. The damage to the church was estimated at around 10,000 euros, that of the police station was initially unclear.

The alleged arsonist was arrested immediately after the attack on the police station. The man, who was armed with a truncheon, threw an officer with a bottle of liquor. He has already been brought before a judge. So far, they hadn’t noticed, police said.
