Eddie Van Halen (65), guitarist and co-founder of the band Van Halen, passed away. He succumbed to throat cancer after a long battle.

Eddie Van Halen was one of the most influential guitarists in rock history. One of his band’s most famous hits is the song “Jump”.

Van Halen’s son Wolfgang (29) confirmed his father’s death via Twitter.

Van Halen’s son, who is also currently in the band, wrote on Twitter: “I can’t believe I have to write this, but my father, Edward Lodewijk Van Halen, lost his long and arduous battle with cancer that morning. He was the best father I could ask for. Every moment that I was allowed to share with him on or off stage was a gift. My heart is broken and I don’t think I will ever recover from this loss. I love you so much dad “.

Born in the Netherlands, Eddie Van Halen died Tuesday morning (local time) at St. John’s Hospital in Santa Monica, California.

By the end of September, former Van Halen bassist and founding member Mark Stone had died of cancer.
