Partial closure extended until January 10

Germans must continue to live in partial confinement until at least 10 January. Chancellor Merkel and the prime ministers of the federal states have decided. Probably only one federal state will decide differently.

Many entrepreneurs need the crown’s help to survive and innkeepers, in particular, have to continue to pay rents. But the funds promised by the federal government can probably only be paid with some delay. Because something is missing.

secondAccording to a media report, there will be a week-long delay in the payment of November aid for companies affected by the Corona crisis. The bridge aid could only be carried out in January due to the excellent completion of a software tool, the newspaper “Bild” reports, citing a response from the federal government to a small request from the parliamentary group FDP. The Dehoga hotel and restaurant association reacted with incomprehension and warned of bankruptcies.

The schedule currently agreed with the service provider provides “that the processing of the application can begin in December if possible and payments can be made in January,” according to “Bild” in response to the federal government.

“Frustration and despair” in many companies

The parliamentary manager of the FDP parliamentary group, Marco Buschmann, criticized it as “a disclosure oath that not a single request for help from November could be processed on a regular basis.” Furthermore, it remains “completely unclear” when the federal government can deliver the necessary software. “The uncertainty of the affected companies is perfect.”

Generous utility programs

FDP Secretary General Volker Wissing also harshly criticized: “He has learned nothing from the serious mistakes of the spring,” quoted the “Neue Osnabrücker Zeitung”. The Rhineland-Palatinate Minister of Finance explained that the federal government would not see the software for processing November aid available to the federal states until December 20, so the processing could only start afterwards. “In simple terms, this means: beyond the prepayment, in fact, there can hardly be any disbursements this year.” This continues, because December aid would also be further delayed.

Dehoga CEO Ingrid Hartges told the newspaper that frustration and despair prevail in many companies. “Now payments on account have to be increased significantly, otherwise bankruptcies are inevitable,” he said.

What has already been paid

However, according to the federal government, in November around 318 million euros have already been disbursed in aid to companies and the self-employed in the partial closure. So far, around 120,000 applications have been submitted, of which around 33,000 are self-employed, a spokeswoman for the Ministry of Economy in Berlin said on Friday.

The November grants are grants for companies, for example in the restaurant sector, which had to close due to official orders. There are payments on account – this is an advance on subsequent payments without further examination. The self-employed receive an advance of up to 5,000 euros, companies up to 10,000 euros.

The Federal Minister for the Economy, Peter Altmaier (CDU), had announced that he wanted to see if advances could be increased in certain cases. State finance ministers had previously demanded it and warned of liquidity bottlenecks.

For the November aid, the federal government expects a volume of up to 15 billion euros according to previous information. Loss of sales will be refunded. Due to the extension of the partial lockdown, there are also December aid based on the same model.
