Amid rush hour traffic, the total closure of the A7 on Tuesday afternoon resulted in long wait times. It had been made necessary because at noon a WWII aerial bomb was found during construction works just off the road in Moorburg at a depth of thirty feet.
It quickly became apparent that the 250 kilograms of garbage could not be transported, but had to be deactivated on site, with a 300 meter blocking radius around the site. The total closure was effective as of 4.45 pm
At 1745 hours, the firefighters gave the go-ahead: specialists managed to defuse the bomb successfully. Due to the total closure, long traffic jams formed, especially in the south in front of the Elbe tunnel.
