US investigators have seized a record amount of about 1,000 kilos of methamphetamine. It is the largest discovery of the synthetic drug to date by the US drug enforcement agency DEA, said the agency’s acting director Timothy Shea.

“Strong blow” against the drug cartels

The DEA chief spoke of a hard blow against the Mexican drug cartels. Shea announced the success of the search on a date outside a warehouse in Montebello near Los Angeles, a southern California metropolis.

The DEA chief was standing in front of a three-meter-high pyramid made from confiscated drugs. The drugs were allegedly smuggled in by the Mexican cartels of Sinaloa and Jalisco Nueva Generación, according to Shea.

The street value is around 6.1 million euros.

According to the authority, the methamphetamine found has a street value of 7.2 million dollars, which corresponds to about 6.1 million euros. It was seized in early October along with around 400 kilos of cocaine and almost six kilos of heroin.

The drugs were discovered in a garage in the town of Perris in Riverside County near Los Angeles. The find was a success as part of a nationwide operation that launched in February.

According to the DEA, around 2,800 arrests have been made in the last six months as part of this operation.
