The state government of Rhineland-Palatinate restricts the number of participants in private celebrations throughout the country. This was announced by Prime Minister Malu Dreyer (SPD) after an exchange conference with representatives of cities and districts.

The leading cause of corona infections is private parties and family celebrations, Dreyer said Thursday. Therefore, the number of participants will be reduced across the country starting Monday from 75 to 25. Previously, such restrictions only applied in regions with a high number of infections.

Municipal health authorities are convinced that the majority of new corona infections today can be traced back to family celebrations and private parties. Therefore, the restrictions that have now been decided are not directed at gastronomy or cultural events, said the Prime Minister: “We do not want to close social life as a whole.”

Dreyer called on people to generally refrain from private celebrations. “Currently is not the time to celebrate,” he asked the population to hold back. “We have the situation under control if people adhere to the rules.”

Greater close cooperation between the state and municipalities

The state and municipalities continued to work closely, Dreyer said. The development of corona infections in the country is of great concern to all. And the risk of infection is higher when people sit together without a mask or distance.

The number of new confirmed corona cases rose to 546 on Thursday in Rhineland-Palatinate and is therefore higher than ever since the start of the pandemic. At the national level, the number of infected per 100,000 inhabitants reached a value of 50.4 in the last seven days.
