The president of the United States, Trump, hopes to distribute a vaccine against the coronavirus in the country before the end of the year. A letter from the health authority suggests it might be time soon. Warn the experts.
The US government has asked states to be ready for the distribution of a possible corona vaccine starting November 1. The head of the CDC health authority, Robert Redfield, appealed in a letter released to governors on Wednesday to ensure completion of the distribution centers by that date.
The centers should be “fully operational” by November 1, according to the letter from late August. To do this, requirements for construction and business permits from McKesson, which will distribute a future vaccine in the country, must be relaxed.
The letter shows the willingness of the administration of President Donald Trump to approve a vaccine before the presidential election on November 3. Trump has repeatedly expressed hope that a vaccine to contain the pandemic will soon be available.
Experts warn against premature approval
However, experts warn against marketing a vaccine without a sufficient scientific basis. More recently, the director of the US FDA’s drug regulatory agency, Stephen Hahn, caused a stir with the declaration that a vaccine could be approved in the United States before final testing. If the manufacturer requests approval before the end of the third and final testing phase, his authority will make a decision on a scientific basis.
The United States is promoting the development of a corona vaccine with billions in funding. Several Western companies are now in the third phase of developing a crown serum, including the British-Swedish pharmaceutical company AstraZeneca and an alliance between the US company Pfizer and the German company BioNTech.
Moscow Approved Vaccine Before All Testing Completed
A corona vaccine had already been approved in Russia in August, even before the final testing phase was completed. It is the first serum in the world officially approved against the new pathogen. Western scientists, however, criticized the decision.
Trump has been harshly criticized for his handling of the corona pandemic. This is one of the reasons the Republican is behind his challenger Joe Biden of the opposition Democrats in the polls for the November 3 presidential election.
In terms of absolute numbers, the United States is the country in the world most affected by the Corona crisis. Since the start of the pandemic, more than six million cases of infection have been confirmed in the US, and about 185,000 people have died as a result of infection.
