Donald Trump proposed for the Nobel Peace Prize – again

A Norwegian MP nominated US President Donald Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize in 2021. The reason is Trump’s efforts to mediate between Israel and the United Arab Emirates, said Christian Tybring-Gjedde, who is a member. of a right-wing party in the Norwegian parliament. Trump had reached a “single agreement” with his peace policy, he justified.

It is the second time Tybring-Gjedde has nominated Trump for the award. In 2019, he cited his diplomatic efforts to deal with North Korea as the reason. This year he also nominated him due to the withdrawal of troops from Iraq. The Norwegian Nobel Prize Committee declined to comment on the presentation.

Trump’s policy has contributed to peace between Israel and the United Arab Emirates and thus allows for greater peace in the Middle East, Tybring-Gjedde said. “No matter how Trump behaves at home or what he says at press conferences,” said the Norwegian, “he definitely has a chance to get the award.”

Trump responded to the nomination on Twitter: “Thank you!” The president of the United States also retweeted several links to media reports and congratulatory tweets. White House spokeswoman Kayleigh McEnany said on Fox News: “This president made peace around the world.”

Trump’s national security adviser Robert O’Brien immediately named the US president as the “frontrunner” for the Nobel Peace Prize after the announcement of the Israel-Emirates deal. Trump himself had already said last year that he would get the Nobel Prize “for many things”, “if they are awarded fairly, which is not the case.” Trump’s predecessor, Barack Obama, received the Nobel Peace Prize at the beginning of his term.

Israel and the United Arab Emirates intend to sign an agreement in Washington on September 15 to normalize their relations as announced in mid-August. US President Trump hopes Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and UAE Foreign Minister Abdullah bin Said will attend this “historic” date, the White House said. The agreement would make the Emirates the third Arab country, after Egypt and Jordan, to have diplomatic relations with Israel.

Thousands of people around the world can submit nominations for the Nobel Peace Prize, including members of parliament and government, university professors, and previous Nobel Prize winners. Several hundred suggestions are received regularly. The deadline for proposing this year’s candidates was January. The recipient of the 2020 Peace Prize will be announced in Oslo on October 9.
