Donald Trump had been secretly vaccinated against Corona in January

Confidence in one’s own immunity was apparently not as great as was initially publicly asserted: Former US President Donald Trump had been vaccinated against the corona virus shortly before the end of his term. Trump and his wife Melania were vaccinated at the White House in January, the Washington Post reported, citing Trump’s office.

Trump seemed to realize in mid-December that his immunity might not be that far off. At the time, former White House spokeswoman Kayleigh McEnany said Trump was open to vaccination and wanted to encourage Americans to do so. There are no plans to vaccinate Trump, McEnany said.

On Sunday, in his first public appearance since leaving the White House, Trump called on all American citizens to get vaccinated. Experts warn that skepticism about vaccines in parts of the population, including many Trump supporters, threatens to make the fight against the pandemic more difficult.

In the US, more than 514,000 people have died as a result of a corona infection, by far the highest number in the world. About 50 million people in the country have received at least one dose of the vaccine. That corresponds to 15 percent of the population.
