In his first television interview since the US election, Acting President Donald Trump reiterated his unsubstantiated claims about alleged electoral fraud. The Nov. 3 vote was “a complete fraud,” Trump said in a telephone interview with Fox News on Sunday. In the nearly hour-long conversation, Trump renewed his accusations that many dead had voted and that the increase in mail-order votes resulted in “massive fraud.”
At the same time, he expressed doubts about the legal strategy of his lawyers. “The problem is that it is difficult to get to the Supreme Court,” Trump said. However, he will continue to question the outcome of the election won by Democratic President-elect Joe Biden: “My opinion on this will not change for six months.”
When asked by conservative Fox News anchor Maria Bartiromo if there was still a road to victory for him despite the court losses, Trump said, “I hope so.”
More defeats at court
So far, Trump has not provided reliable evidence of the alleged election fraud that he has been talking about for weeks. US courts have dismissed numerous lawsuits aimed at challenging the election results and their Republican allies.
On Friday, a federal judge once nominated by Trump had dismissed a major lawsuit in the state of Pennsylvania as unfounded. US officials and state election officials have rated the vote as safe and successful. There are no known cases of major fraud.
