Donald Trump apparently no longer wants Republicans to advertise donations with him. As reported by the US newspaper Politico, the former US president has filed a cease and desist declaration, which is said to prohibit the Republican Party’s three largest donation organizations from using his name or image for advertising purposes.
The corresponding letters were sent to the party’s national committee and two groups involved in the congressional elections on Friday, a Trump adviser also told Reuters. Trump was angry that the groups supported Republican MPs who voted for his impeachment alongside Democrats.
Seven Republicans voted to convict Trump
After the assault on the Capitol, the House of Representatives initiated an impeachment process against the then president, accused of “inciting a riot”. Trump was found guilty on February 13, but it was not enough for a conviction due to the lack of a two-thirds majority. In addition to 50 Democrats, seven Republicans voted to convict Trump, including prominent Trump critic Mitt Romney.
Trump himself raises funds through his Save America organization. This is intended to support selected Republicans in next year’s Congressional elections.
