Dominic Cummings, a senior adviser and long-time close confidant to British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, is stepping down with immediate effect, according to constant media reports.
Cummings had left the government headquarters in Downing Street and decided not to stay until Christmas. reported Times Radio chief commentator Tom Newton Dunn on Twitter. The BBC and Sky News also report Cumming’s departure.
According to the BBC, Cummings had spoken to Johnson about his situation on Friday, then the decision was made that an immediate withdrawal would be best. Previously there was talk of a “before Christmas” outing.

A power struggle between rival factions has been raging for weeks at 10 Downing Street, now it has apparently been decided: according to media reports, communications director Lee Cain must leave immediately, as is Cummings. Cain and Cummings were key figures in the “Vote Leave” campaign that helped Boris Johnson win the “Brexit referendum” in June 2016.
Cummings was responsible for Johnson’s rise like no other. He acted as a de facto chief of staff for the British Prime Minister and positioned him against all those who he believed were against Brexit.
Critics blame Cummings primarily for the Johnson administration’s fatal crown policy. Cummings drove through England in the middle of the lockdown in the spring and left his quarantine place several times. He was unable to satisfactorily explain his drive.
