A corona outbreak in Lower Bavaria, in which 275 people are now in quarantine, apparently can be traced back to a doctor. As announced by the district office in Deggendorf, the doctor continued to treat in his practice in Hengersberg, even though he had symptoms of the disease. His subsequent crown test, which he performed himself, was positive.

According to the authority, at least five contacts of the doctor are now infected with the virus. They had contact with 275 other people who have now been quarantined and most of them have already been examined. The results are expected later this week.

Infected at a party in the Czech Republic

The doctor was infected at a celebration in the Czech Republic, Deggendorf district administrator Christian Bernreiter (CSU) told BR. Although he knew that there were people who tested positive at this party and that he was showing symptoms, the doctor continued to practice without waiting for his test result. Only when the test result was positive did the doctor stop working and go into quarantine.

District Administrator: Physician Behavior Is Bodily Harm

The District Office will report the doctor to the prosecutor, stressed district administrator Bernreiter. For him, his behavior was bodily harm, the district administrator told BR. Prosecutors should judge that now. According to the district office, the five people infected by the doctor are a tenth-grade student from Schöllnach High School.

In case of infection, doctors should practice wearing protective suits.

District Administrator Bernreiter said: “That is, of course, irresponsible, I have no words.” There are exemptions for infected doctors, but then they would have to work in protective suits and special masks. To the knowledge of the District Office, that was not the case here. The Deggendorf health department had tested the contacts of the infected doctor for Corona and thus came across the infected student at Schöllnach High School.

Realschule Schöllnach was completely closed for one day

The school was closed on Monday, September 14th due to the incident. Since teaching resumed Tuesday, only the affected student’s tenth grade and her contact persons have been in quarantine. Bernreiter also said that, unlike in nursing homes, there have been no regular checks on hygiene regulations by district doctors, because there is a lack of skills. It is the responsibility of each physician, thus the district administrator.

The doctor’s office is closed until further notice.

The infected doctor’s office in the Deggendorf district is currently closed due to “Corona quarantine regulations until further notice,” the office’s answering machine said when the BR called today.
