A 500 square meter warehouse in Berlin-Gesundbrunnen was completely ablaze early Monday morning around 2:30 a.m. The fire was not under control until around 8 a.m.

A total of 150 firefighters participated in the large-scale operation. 41 vehicles, including a wheel loader, had to move to Badstrasse in Gesundbrunnen from 2.30am to extinguish the 500-square-meter warehouse. Pallets containing hygiene items such as kitchen and toilet paper and packaging material were stored there.

During the extinguishing work, there was a lot of smoke and unpleasant smells from the smoke, the fire department announced Monday morning. In the morning, the steel and concrete construction with a tin roof of the two-story building completely collapsed.

No one was injured in the fire. At around 3.15am, the fire department picked up about 20 people from nearby homes and treated them in a bus because it was unclear if the fire would spread to neighboring homes. They could go home around 6 a.m.

A resident smelled smoke during the night and called emergency services. Since the warehouse on Badstrasse is only accessible through backyards, it was initially difficult to find the exact location of the fire, the spokesperson said. Hundreds of meters of hose had to be laid on Badstrasse, Prinzenallee and Travemünder Strasse.

It was not initially clear how the fire occurred.
