VfL Bochum reached the knockout stages of the DFB Cup on penalties. In 5: 2 (1: 0, 2: 2, 2: 2) after penalties for the second division against Mainz 05, the Mainz team led by Jean-Paul Boëtius (7th minute) and Danny Latza (55th) with two goals against Bochums Gerrit Holtmann (66th) and Robert Tesche (90th + 5th) provided the extension.
