Borussia Dortmund are in the round of 16 of the DFB Cup. Against second division Eintracht Braunschweig, BVB achieved a 2-0 (1-0) win. Defense chief Mats Hummels and Jadon Sancho provided the goals.

It was almost twelve minutes before Hummels could cheer. Sancho had made a free kick in the penalty area, the former national player hit it after a brief confusion due to dust. Braunschweiger’s best first-half chance from Marcel Bär safely stopped BVB goalkeeper Marvin Hitz (23rd minute).

Hummels stayed in the locker room at halftime, the reason initially unclear. BVB now had several good offensive actions, but first Jude Bellingham missed Braunschweig goalkeeper Jasmin Fejzić (47th) with a low shot, then Julian Brandt shot into the side net (51st).

Bär again had the best chance in the second stage. After a good pass from Suleiman Abdullahi, the attacking midfielder prevailed in the penalty area and fired the ball against the crossbar (56th).

Steffen Tigges missed another great opportunity when he ran into only Fejzić (85th). Only in injury time did Sancho secure BVB’s second goal after a counterattack, and the decision.
