The possible matches in the knockout stages of the DFB Cup are in place. However, not all participating teams yet. Here are the Hessian pairings.
In the round of 16 of the DFB Cup, Eintracht Frankfurt could face Rot-Weiss Essen. That was the result of Sunday night’s draw at the sports show. Consequently, the winner of the still pending match between Frankfurt and Leverkusen will visit the traditional western regional division.
The second-round match between Leverkusen and Frankfurt had been postponed to January 12. The Frankfurt team demonstrated how the weekend works: in the Bundesliga, Eintracht beat championship contender Leverkusen 2-1 at the start of the 2021 competitive playing year.
Essen coach Christian Neidhart has a clear preference: “I’d rather go to Frankfurt,” he told the sports program. The former professional already has experience in Hessen. “I already played Frankfurt in the DFB Cup and unfortunately I lost. Maybe we can get revenge there.” Eintracht did not comment on the draw given the game in Leverkusen that was still to be played.
Lilies wait for Bavaria
Meanwhile, SV Darmstadt 98 is threatened with the hammer of the German Cup competition: The Lilies got the winner of the Holstein Kiel match against Bayern Munich from “Losfee” Sven Hannawald. Frankfurt-Leverkusen and Kiel-Bayern are the only two games that have yet to be played in the competition so far.
Lilien’s sporting director was not really satisfied after the draw: “It’s a shame we won’t have a home game again,” Carsten Wehlmann said. “Now we have to wait and see if we embark on a long journey north or south. Either we find a top team in the second division or the best in Europe. Either way, a tough lot.”

Eintracht women travel to the 2nd division
The quarterfinals have already been drawn for women. The Eintracht Frankfurt players are in the round of 16 for second-division club SG Andernach. The meetings increase on March 20 and 21.
