Devastating accident on the A99
The wrong driver kills four people

Late at night, a driver near Hohenbrunn makes a fatal mistake: he drives incorrectly on the A99, a little later he collides with an oncoming vehicle. Any help comes too late for all inmates.

Four men were killed in an accident after a ghost ride on Autobahn 99 near Munich. Two of the victims were in a car with Gütersloh plates, said a spokesman for the Upper Bavaria North Police Headquarters in Ingolstadt. According to police, the 34- and 43-year-old men were driving in the right lane towards Salzburg. At the Hohenbrunn exit, they suddenly came across another car going the wrong direction. A 50-year-old passenger sat next to the driver. The vehicles collided head-on, the four men were killed.

It is unknown where the person who caused the accident came from and his age. It is also unclear how long he was driving in the wrong direction on the freeway before the accident. According to the police, there is no indication that he had used alcohol or drugs. The A99 is part of the motorway ring around Munich, connecting the A9 towards Nuremberg and the A8 towards Salzburg in the east.

In the vicinity of Erfurt, a truck driver was able to prevent the worst. There, too, a driver from the opposite direction entered Autobahn 71. According to police, the 30-year-old truck driver deliberately blocked the left lane when a car approached him from the opposite direction at the Erfurt-Bindersleben junction.

After the car had to stop, the 43-year-old ghost driver was held by the truck driver until police arrived. An alcohol test returned a value of 1.84 per thousand. According to the information, the man had to surrender his driver’s license immediately. He is now being investigated for endangering road traffic.
