At Niederlahnstein station, rescue work on the crashed freight train continues. Hundreds of thousands of liters of diesel had been spilled. It is not yet clear if and what damages this resulted in.

According to federal police, up to 150,000 liters of diesel fuel escaped from the derailed freight train in Niederlahnstein. In addition, several wagons had to be pumped. The extent of diesel pollution is still unclear

As of Monday night, the police had talked about the biodiesel that had leaked. However, a rail spokesman has now confirmed that it is diesel fuel. Fuel leaked from two cars. The railway is in close contact with the responsible environmental authority. To find out how deep the soil has been contaminated, exploratory drilling will be carried out, the spokesperson continued. According to the information, the railroad is not yet authorized to work at the accident site because investigations into the cause of the accident are still ongoing.
