People from Germany can no longer enter Denmark without a valid reason to travel.
Danish Foreign Minister Jeppe Kofod announced Thursday. The move means, among other things, that German tourists can no longer enter the country. For most other countries in Europe, these entry restrictions have been in place for a long time. Exceptions apply to residents of Schleswig-Holstein.
The reason for the measures is the increasing number of infections in Germany. According to the Robert Koch Institute, the daily number of new corona infections exceeded the threshold of 10,000 to 11,287 for the first time in the pandemic. There were 30 new deaths. In Schleswig-Holstein, 160 new corona infections were reported on Thursday.
Borders with Denmark were last closed for several weeks in March. In Denmark, a country is declared quarantined if, on average, there have been more than 30 new infections per week per 100,000 inhabitants for two weeks. This value has already been exceeded in Germany.
In the past 24 hours, 760 new corona infections were detected in Denmark, more than ever in one day. This is reported by the Danish authority for infectious and non-communicable diseases, Statens Serum Institut (SSI).
