Doctor injects seriously ill Covid patients dead
The death of two seriously ill corona patients at the Essen University Clinic worries the police and the prosecutor. A senior physician is said to have assisted in both cases with a deadly agent. The doctor is in custody and explains why he did it.
A senior physician at Essen University Hospital is said to have administered drugs to two terminally ill men in their last stages of life, resulting in immediate death. Police accuse the 44-year-old man of manslaughter. He was arrested. A homicide squad is investigating.
The defendant only gave information about one case, police told Essen. He said that he wanted to end the suffering of the patient and his relatives. According to information from the newspaper “Bild”, the two men who died were corona patients who were being treated in the Covid-19 room of the university hospital.
According to the police, the two patients, aged 47 and 50, were in the main doctor’s room. He was in a very critical state of health. One died on November 13, the other on November 17. The doctor was arrested on November 18. A day later, a judge ordered the arrest.
The clinic announced that the doctor had been working at the university clinic since February. “There is a suspicion that the doctor administered a drug to a dying patient in the last phase of death in probably two cases in order to cause immediate death,” he said in a statement. The clinic immediately informed the prosecutor of the suspicion. The doctor was immediately taken off duty.
