Two acts of violence shake Celle in Lower Saxony. One person is dead, another is seriously injured. Police arrest two suspects and rule out terrorist antecedents.
After two acts of violence in Celle, Lower Saxony, late on Monday night, with one dead and one seriously injured, the police arrested two suspects. There are many indications that the two events are unrelated, a police spokesman said.
There is no indication of a terrorist attack. The warning to the population was lifted to stay at home: “Currently we no longer assume any threat to the population,” the spokesman said.
Police first found a seriously injured 54-year-old man in his apartment in the Harburger Berg area, the spokesman said. The man died at the scene. Officers had previously received an emergency call that there had been a robbery with a knife. A 51-year-old man who was in the same house was arrested. However, according to his first statements, there is only a vague suspicion.
That same night, according to police, a 59-year-old man was seriously injured with a knife in the Neuenhäusen district. The man was out of danger after an emergency operation. According to his statement, an 18-year-old cyclist injured him with a knife while passing by. Following leads, police arrested a 21-year-old in this case, the police spokesman said. Both the victims and the two detainees are German.
